CAPTain Test® Science

Well-informed HR decisions rather than gut feelings

The quality of your recruitment decisions is one of the key factors in your company’s success.

The CAPTain Test® provides you with a scientifically sound, objective basis for selecting the right employees, developing them in a targeted manner and retaining them in the long term.

Making behaviour measurable – rather than just hoping.

What makes CAPTain unique

The CAPTain Test® does not measure personality, but rather what really matters in day-to-day working life:

Specific behaviour in the workplace

  • How does a person make decisions?
  • How do they lead others?
  • How do they work as part of a team?
  • How do they handle responsibility?
  • What are their strengths, and where is there room for development?

The analysis is based on 38 scientifically defined behavioural dimensions and provides a clear, nuanced picture of the individual’s actual working and performance style.

👉 The result: no interpretations – just a solid basis for decision-making.

Scientifically sound and tried and tested in practice for decades

The CAPTain Test® was developed by psychologists and is based on recognised scientific models.

It is based on Henry A. Murray’s theory:

  • Behaviour arises from the interplay of internal motives (‘needs’)
  • and external requirements (‘presses’)

CAPTain highlights precisely this interplay – and thus behaviour – in a professional context.

The key difference: criteria-based diagnosis

Most personnel tests compare specific groups of people with one another (norm-referenced testing).

The CAPTain Test®, however, is based on the principle of criteria-referenced assessment.

This means:

A person’s behaviour is not compared with that of others, but is assessed directly against the specific requirements of a role.

👉 The decisive benchmark is therefore not a reference group,

but the question: How well does the person’s behaviour fit the role, job and working environment?

 For you, this means:

You will receive clear guidance on suitability, rather than relative comparisons with no direct practical relevance.

For you, this means:

  • clear insights into suitability
  • no ‘average scores’
  • direct assessment of suitability and development potential

This is why CAPTain is an extremely popular tool for decision-makers, HR managers and consultants.

Tailor-made requirement profiles: The crucial step from analysis to decision

The CAPTain Test® not only reveals how people behave in the workplace, but also enables a direct comparison with the specific requirements of a particular role within the organisation, along with the people and culture associated with it.

To this end, individual requirement profiles can be defined that describe precisely which behaviours are truly crucial to success in a particular role.

 What makes it special:

It is not a question of ‘good’ or ‘bad’ – but rather how well the candidate fits the role.

This allows you to see at a glance:

  • whether a person is suited to the role
  • in which areas there is room for development
  • how far they deviate from the ideal profile and where there is room for development

 The result:

clear, objective and immediately actionable assessments.
